“Yes, dear brothers and sisters, our Christian communities must become genuine ‘schools’ of prayer where the meeting with Christ is expressed not just in imploring help but also in thanksgiving, praise, adoration, contemplation, listening and ardent devotion, until the heart truly 'falls in love’.” – Pope John Paul II
Catholic Communities of Prayer is a ministry with a simple purpose: to respond emphatically to Pope John Paul II’s plea that our “communities must become genuine ‘schools’ of prayer.” CCOP’s passion is in answering the Pope’s call by implementing schools of prayer in Parish communities that “ensure an all-pervading climate of prayer.”
School of Prayer Defined:
A school of prayer is any ministry or classroom setting where one can learn about prayer, how to pray, and learn about the One to whom they are praying.
CCOP envisions a broad spectrum of schools of prayer ranging from parishes that have prayer ministries established where there are daily teachings on prayer to diocese wide and centralized prayer institutes or even prayer universities. Imagine getting a four or six year degree in the art of prayer. Imagine becoming an expert in the mystical life. Thousands of Catholics desperately hunger for this knowledge. People want to know God. People want to learn how to pray. However, there are currently so few resources and training opportunities for the laity to grow in prayer. CCOP is confident that these schools of prayer will meet this infinite demand.
Hands-On Training:
In our Schools of Prayer, Catholic Communities of Prayer will provide the following areas of actual "hands-on" teaching and training in the art of prayer:
Lecture Based Classes:
Also in our Schools of Prayer, Catholic Communities of Prayer will offer the following classroom style and lecture based classes to aid in the "hands-on" training:
